Hampi India – 11 Best Places to Stay in Budget, Mid-Range and Top End Categories

Though small in size, the heat-soaked city of Hampi has plenty to offer, including buckets of colourful charm, a chance to get up close and personal with elephants, and more dosas than you could possibly squeeze in. Sadly, the accommodation front doesn’t boast quite as many options. Luckily we’ve put together this handy list of gems so you’ll know exactly where to go instead of door-knocking in the Hampi heat!

Budget

Hampi is a relatively compact little town, and most of the accommodation options are within the same vicinity. A good place to look for more budget-friendly quarters is in the streets between the Hampi bazaar and the river. For those enjoying India’s wallet-friendliness, your best bet in this area is for either a guest house or a homestay as these are generally the most economical options, though you may have to sacrifice a few luxuries in the process. Most of the rooms we checked out in Hampi came as doubles or triples, and the standard was pretty bare bones. Expect a thin mattress and not much in the way of decor. However, on the bright side, private bathrooms were more often than not an added bonus!

1. Netra Guest House

Janata Plot Near Vicky Guesthouse – double rooms approximately 500 INR per night
Though the rooms are notably air and windowless, for its excellent price, Netra Guest House could be a lot worse! But who needs to spend time in a tiny room when you can enjoy full use of Netra’s shady and colourful rooftop restaurant? The atmosphere here is relaxed, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are (thankfully) very clean. On the downside, some cheaper rooms only have access to shared toilets.

2Manju Guest House

Near Virupakasha Temple on River Road – double rooms approximately 750 – 1500 INR
Manju Guest House provides travellers with the holy trinity of backpackers’ needs: free wifi, clean sheets, and a hot shower (throw in the copious amounts of toilet paper and we’d never leave!). Manju is smack bang in the middle of the accommodation district and has bright and cheerful rooms to boot.

3. Revanth Homestay

Janata Plot, River Road – single room for approximately 500 INR, doubles 1000 INR
The ample size of Revanth’s rooms gives you the chance to stretch yourself out, and their in-house bike rental lets you stretch out even further. This homestay is located right in the middle of town and the friendly family that run it will make you feel at home.

4. Rashmitha Guest House

Janata Plot – a mix of twin and double rooms, all with ensuites, around 970 INR per night
The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and bright, and the location is great. However, if you value your sleep, this might not be the most suitable option for you, because not only is it on a noisy street, but the check-out time is 9am.

5. Chinnie’s Home

Address provided upon booking – double room for approximately 1200 INR
Want to stay in a friendly family’s spare room? Well, Chinnie’s Home might be just the place for you. It’s a little off the beaten track and difficult to find, but Chinnie’s home, which is listed only on Airbnb, is a great spot to explore some of Hampi’s more remote temples from. We especially loved Chinnie’s home-cooked meals.

Mid-Range

Sometimes, a few rupees make all the difference. Mid-range options in Hampi may not cost much more than the budget options, but they offer significantly more comfort. For just a bit extra, you can expect a bed with a proper mattress and nice sheets, and working wifi. The further afield from central Hampi you travel, the better (and more expensive) the accommodation options seem to get, and though there are one or two pricier guest houses in the centre where the action happens, you may want to consider staying a little away from the dust and crowds.

6. Gopi Guesthouse

Janatha Plot – double/twin approximately 2500 INR
Gopi guesthouse may have more of a backpacker vibe than some of the other mid-range options, but the difference in price buys you well worthwhile comfort and convenience. Though the rooms are on the small side, we found them to be very clean and comfortable. On top of this, Gopi Guesthouse offers free breakfast, an atmospheric restaurant with delicious food, and free train station pick-up!

7. Clarks Inn Hampi

HPC Road, Kalamapur – doubles for approximately 3500 INR
If you’re looking for value for money look no further than Clarks Inn! This place is so nice and comfortable they could be charging double (shh – don’t tell them!). Very comfy beds, great air conditioning, and lovely staff, the fact that it’s a 100 INR rickshaw ride away from Hampi Bazaar is absolutely worth it.

8. Thilak Homestay

River Road – double/twin for 2800 INR
It may not be the prettiest place, but Thilak Homestay offers guests all the basic amenities as well as a clean and secure room for a reasonable price. What makes it a cut above the rest is the excellent central location and the friendly staff who can help you tick all the sights off your Hampi list.

9. Kishkinda Heritage Resort

Near Stone Bridge Cross, Anegudi – cottages 3000 INR, suites around 4800 INR.
Kishkinds is not your average guesthouse. Rather, it sits on a large property strewn with traditional cottages (and a pool!!) about 20 minutes from Hampi Bazaar. Rooms are either in the slightly cheaper cottages, or in large comfortable suites. A great option for those looking to try something a little different away from the crowds, or those travelling with kids.

Top End

Unfortunately, the very few more luxurious accommodation options in Hampi are to be found a fair way out of the main town itself. But don’t be put off, for most hotels can arrange transport to the major sites for you. With one or two exceptions, we caution you not to expect anything too fancy; as Hampi is still not on the package tourist route, luxury travel has been slow to arrive there. What you can expect, however, is a comfortable room with air conditioning, a relaxing pool, and a great restaurant.

10. Heritage Resort Hampi

No 48C Hosamalapanagudi, Hospet Taluk – 6000-12000 INR
The respite from the heat and dust of Hampi that The Heritage Resort provides is, in our eyes, most definitely worth the extra money. With an enormous pool and immaculately clean rooms, though it may be a little away from Hampi Bazaar, the concierge can arrange for you to see the sights by shuttle service or private car. The free breakfast is a highlight. Very nice!

11. Orange County Hotel

Hallikere Village Kamalapura Post, Hospet Taluk - 29000 INR
Orange County takes luxury to the next level. The building housing the hotel has been especially designed to echo the Islamic-Indian style of so many other Indian palaces, and as a result the rooms ooze style and charm. Staff at the hotel are exceptionally polite and helpful, and the hotel offers every service under the sun, including amazing massages. Once you come to this place, you will never want to leave, because this place is the epitome of luxury.
